Often, it soaks through the plasterboard or begins to drip in a place far from its source.
The only way for an amateur to discover the source of a plumbing leak is to open up the ceiling or wall where the water has appeared and then try to trace it back. That often requires removing wall and ceiling finishes. It makes a huge mess, and the cost of the repairs to the building can end up being many times the cost of the plumbing repair.

There are two primary types of equipment that we use: pressure testing equipment and acoustical testing equipment. By testing the pressure between valves, we can identify the segment of pipe that’s leaking. The acoustic testing equipment allows us to accurately estimate where the leak is located along the length of the pipe. Both types of testing equipment work without making it necessary to expose the pipe. That’s why they’re referred to as ‘non-destructive.’
If we can correctly determine the location of the pipe within the wall or floor, then we can reach the leak with only a tiny amount of damage to the finishes.
